Have you ever heard of sodium in salt or potassium in bananas? What are they? We begin our journey by looking at the smallest units in nature, atoms and elements. What do they look like? Why are they important? What do they have to do with us? Visit the links in this lesson to find the answers to these and other fascinating questions.

2. Now, open the Chemistry Notes Handout. Go to File and Make a Copy. Store your copy in your 2nd NW folder on Google Drive. Click on the link to the right to view the notes slideshow. You will use it at various times throughout this unit. After you make your own copy, you do not need to click on the link above each time you want to do notes.

3. On the slideshow, there is a list of 40 elements you will learn by making flash cards. Get 20 index cards from Mrs. Yates. You will also need scissors. Follow the directions on the slideshow to make a set of flash cards. Do not lose them; you will learn them for a quiz. Start studying TODAY and let Mrs. Yates know when you are ready to take the quiz! You may take it more than once.

4. When you are ready, see Mrs. Yates to take the Symbols Quiz. You may take it as many times as you want until you get a perfect score but you may NOT use your notes or flash cards. You may move on with the lessons, but you will not be finished with this web quest until you have successfully passed the Symbols Quiz.
